7. Merge to form giant robot!
-
Now we're gonna put one and
one together, "one" being Lara and the other "one" being the mountainous
background from Step 6. Make sure both are up in Photoshop (and check
my warning notice about RAM in the previous Step).
-
Now, go to your character's
Channel window and select the channel that had everything behind her (remember
I told you to make this in Step 3?). Marching ants should appear
all around her.
-
Click <ctrl>-<shift>-i
all together. What this does is invert the selection so instead of
the background, the character herself is selected. Now click on the
Move tool.
-
Click on the selected character
with the Move tool without releasing the mouse button, and drag her onto
the image that you want for your background and let go of the mouse button.
She will now be part of the scene.
-
Go to Window --> Show Layers
and the Layers window will appear. You can see the character and
the background are both there, just like the Channel windows. The
character should be active, so you can use the Move tool to move her around
to wherever looks appropriate. If you want to rotate or flip her,
go to Layer --> Transform and maneuver her to your desires.
-
Do you want to add shadows
to the background for your character? In the Layers window, click
on the background and only it can be affected. Then use the Airbrush
tool and the color black (and a very weak opacity level) and start tossing
in shadows : be careful that they match the same direction of light you
placed on your character in Step 5!
-
When done with that and you're
happy with everything's placement, go to Layers --> Flatten Image and the
whole image will become a single picture with no layers.
-
Now use the Airbrush and
the color white to add extra highlights to whatever you want (preferably
shiny metal, but whatever you like).
-
You're almost to the finishing
line! SAVE YOUR FILE!!!
